The Stakeholders’ meeting is a key component of the COREN Outcome-Based Education initiative aims to position engineering education in Nigeria for global competitiveness. The insights and outcomes of this meeting formed a working document that guides the department’s operations and strategic direction.

1st Biomedical Engineering Departmental Lecture and Symposium

The inaugural Biomedical Engineering Departmental Lecture and Symposium brought together dignitaries, alumni, industry partners, parents, staff and students to promote knowledge sharing, strengthen industry-academia collaboration and inspire innovation in biomedical engineering. The event reinforced the department’s commitment to academic excellence, professional development and stakeholder engagement.

Team AFROVAX Wins BIG at 8th CODET Engineering Competition.

Team AFROVAX, from the University of Ilorin emerged as the Overall Winner of the prestigious CODET, held at the NigComSat Headquarters, Abuja.

Represented by Ojiugo Eke of Biomedical Engineering Department and Abuh Ufedo-ojo of Electrical Engineering Department the team presented an innovative, solar-powered vaccine carrier system aimed at solving critical vaccine storage and distribution issues in underserved communities earning them the 1st Place in the group category.

The project was supervised by Dr. S.A. Yahaya, who commended the team’s creativity, resilience and drive to create impact-driven solutions. Special appreciation goes to the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Professor J.K. Odusote and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab O. Egbewole (SAN) for their unflinching support. Gratitude also to Dr. Sikiru Olayinka, Chairman of the University Project Committee, for his consistent backing.

This Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Ilorin records outstanding achievement at the 2026 Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET) Students’ Competition.

After securing a decisive victory at the regional level where our students proudly represented the North Central Zone, our team advanced to the national finals. These finals were held during the 34th Assembly of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in Abuja. The team emerged as the First Runner-up, securing second place nationwide in the highly competitive Group Project category where they presented the award-winning project, titled NOOSI. The participating team members who carried out the successful design, presentation, and defense of the project included Eniola Oladejo, Hikmah Olawore, Adio Boluwatife, and Popoola Ayodeji.
This success was made possible through the meticulous coordination and expert guidance of Dr. S. A. Yahaya. Progressing from North Central regional champions to securing second place nationally stands as a testament to the team’s hard work and the exceptional mentorship of our staff.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering achieved notable success at the 7th CODET Students’ Project Competition.

The Smart Mobility Team secured an impressive second runner-up position in the team project category at the 7th Committee of Deans of Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET) Engineering Students’ Project Competition.
The competition, held on August 31, 2024, at NIGCOMSAT in Abuja, brought together the brightest engineering minds from across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. The team’s project garnered a commendable 79.8% score, placing the University of Ilorin firmly among the top performers.
The team’s success is a testament to the hard work and ingenuity of our students from the Biomedical Engineering Department: Heba Oyindamola Hamzat, Oluwadamilola Ebosiata Enebi, Biliamin Babatunde Adewusi, Waliyah Jumai Yahaya who presented a Mobility Aid Device. Their outstanding performance was achievable by the guidance of their project supervisor, Dr. S.A Yahaya, and the unwavering support of the faculty, represented by Prof. Y.L Shuaib-Babaita from the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department.

The University of Ilorin has emerged as the overall winner at the 2026 North Central Zone Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET) Engineering Students’ Project (ESP) Competition.

The competition, which was held on Monday (June 15, 2026) at the Faculty of Engineering Board Room, NLNG Building, University of Ilorin, saw the University secure the first positions in both the Single and Group categories, recording a remarkable double victory ahead of other participating institutions across the North Central Zone.
